Although relocating to a new city (yet alone, a new country!) is fun and exciting, there is a small aspect of dread when it comes to finding businesses that cater to your personal upkeep and well-being. How do you know if that nice hair salon won't butcher your hair? Will a routine teeth cleaning at the dentist turn into an unexpected blood bath? What if you leave a waxing salon without your va-jay-jay (excuse my French)?
Oh, first world problems. Well, I had gone too long without a wax down there, so in the end, I got the proverbial straw and I sucked it up. I yelped "waxing salons" in Singapore and Pink Parlour came up on my radar. (In fact, it was one of the few businesses that showed up. Are you ladies hiding all the good waxing places from me?) After checking out their cute website, I phoned in and made an appointment the next day.
Now, I'm still learning how Singapore works in terms of addresses, so it took me a few moments to find this place from the Somerset MRT station. But I found it in the end, tucked away in one of the corners of Orchard Central! So after filling out a form and having some small talk with the good humored receptionist, I was asked if I wanted to hop in the shower to freshen up. They have a shower on the premises?! COOL! Now that's something I've never seen before.
My therapist (that's what they call everyone here, regardless of what service you're having) was a very sweet lady and kept things professional. Although hard wax is not something that I'm used to, it wasn't a bad experience and it got the job done.
Overall, great first time experience. I found their marketing cute and very effective, and I even left with some nice post-wax products. My only complaint is the time frame - it took 45 minutes for my service. In New York, I'm used to 15 minutes. I'm a woman of leisure at the moment, so I can afford 15 minutes of small talk and then 45 minutes of waxing, but for those working women on the go, I'm not sure how this'll fit in their schedule.
And to confirm, I still have my va-jay-jay. WIN.
