If I could empty my savings account to visit this spa regularly, I would. I went in with a Groupon for an onsen soak and massage and it was extremely blissful. The onsen is the only Japanese onsen experience you can get in Singapore, and if you get a treatment besides the onsen you can wear a yukata. The massage felt amazing - the masseuse definitely had technique.
The only catch - it's pretty pricey and deservedly so. One can join Ikeda Spa as a member with a 'checking account with points' system after one has visited. But once one has visited, one is not entitled to try any other promotions with Ikeda Spa. They take their 'first-time' T&C very seriously.
If you want to come visit, watch Peatix for events held by Ikeda Spa. One can enjoy the onsen and view their facilities at a good price.
What are facials good for? We tense our muscles in our face quite a lot, and its lovely to look after your face now and again especially when living in a warm climate. I had the Geisha Signature Facial at Ikeda Spa recently, and the mask was made of ... nightingale droppings!! and left my face feeling lovely for days on end. I highly recommend this lovely spa and this particular facial. Besides the Japanese really have a knack for taking care of their skin, it's not a myth.
Went there with a friend to try out the massage services there before Chinese New Year. Once I stepped inside, it was unmistakeably Japanese. We had to remove our shoes once past the door, and proceeded to the main reception. We were then seated at the waiting area and shown the menu, after which we were served a hot towel and hot tea. I was then approached by my masseuse who did a short interview with me, asking me things like my personal lifestyle (whether it was sedentary or active), which areas I felt painful or any previous injuries. Was also asked if I was not feeling well or on any medication. Very detailed and thoughtful of them to ensure that the customer is suitable for massage before proceeding (I have been to some massage places where they just start without asking anything).
Like most other Japanese beauty salons, privacy was a key part of their service design. I was guided into a single-bed massage room for my massage session. The masseuse was very professional in the way she massaged, frequently checking if I was okay with the amount of force used. She was also very friendly.
I felt really refreshed after the session, and am overall very happy with the services provided.
With the great offers at the annual Great Singapore Sale (GSS), you'll probably be spending a day or two (or even more) at the malls. Shopping might be called retail therapy, but it certainly isn't therapeutic if your arms, legs and shoulders are aching after a day of lugging around heavy shopping bags.
While it's undeniable that we all love a good deal, there's also nothing better to end of a day of intense retail therapy more than pampering massages to untie those knots in the body ' or even better, a soak in a hot spring!
With that in mind, Ikeda Spa Prestige has introduced a GSS Body Recharge package for the duration of the sale. Opened in March 2013, Ikeda Spa Prestige is conveniently located in Clarke Quay and prides itself as an authentic Japanese spa.
Whether you're looking for a relaxing time after hitting the malls or simply looking for an avenue to recharge, read our review of the Body Recharge package first to find out why it's a must-try.
The Body Recharge package consists of a complimentary white ion onsen communal bath entry pass, a 60-minute massage (with a choice of either Anma Deep Tissue or Inyou Relaxation massages) and a 30-minute Ashitsubo Foot Reflexology Massage.
Stepping into the spa, I certainly felt like I was in Japan. Besides being one the few spas in Singapore to offer Hinokinuro Sento, an onsen-style public bathhouse, the spa is also furnished in true Japanese style, complete with tatami rooms, wooden interiors and Japanese scroll paintings.
I was offered hot tea before filling up a questionnaire on what I hope to achieve after the treatment, and the level of pressure preferred for massages.

I was then led to a cosy treatment room, where I changed into my yukata or summer kimono before being led to the onsen. Onsen water has been reputed for their health benefits, and the facility at Ikeda Spa Prestige is made of hinoki, a prized Japanese cypress wood that is said to release mineral oils with soothing scents and anti-bacterial properties to calm and uplift spirits.
The steaming onsen water is also enriched with healing minerals by via the latest ionisation technology. Indeed, after the 30-minute soak, I felt considerably more relaxed.
Ikeda Spa Prestige
The intimate Japanese-style treatment rooms set the scene for an indulgent time.
For the massage, I opted for the Anma Deep Tissue massage, which involved longer strokes on the body. The therapist then applied olive oil on me, before proceeding to do the massage. While I experience shoulder aches due to long hours in front of the computer (a common office syndrome), the therapist used just the right amount of pressure and I was soon lulled into dreamland.
I had expected to be woken up for the Ashitsubo Foot Reflexology massage, but the therapist told me to remain on the bed ﾄ the massage will be performed with me lying down instead.
Warm, Japanese hospitality was accorded to me every step of the way ﾄ from checking to see if I was alright in the onsen, to ensuring that I felt comfortable during my massage. I also liked how the therapists focused on the treatment, instead of pestering me to sign for a package.
That evening when I reached home, I drifted effortlessly to sleep, with the ache in my shoulders and feet conspicuously gone. The GSS Body Recharge package comes highly recommended for shopperholics and non-shopperholics alike who want to de-stress.
Dear Ikeda Spa @ Central Mall, thank you for the memorable experience! First of all, would like to commend you on your excellent service, particularly from your reception staff. Amelia deserves a special mention for her bright personality and patience.
Was also very pleasantly surprised to know you had a hinoki onsen, and even more pleased to know a 30min onsen session was complimentary with the 90min massage session I had. The onsen was relaxing and the I could feel the smoothness of the water.
The Inyou massage I had was good. Strong but gentle enough such that I was lulled into a light slumber after a while.
Certainly look forward to my next visit. Please keep it up, Ikeda Spa
The 30-minute white cocoa body scrub and 30-minute Red Rose bath dip that followed quickly dissolved every knotted muscles and tightness on my shoulders and upper back, while the scrub removed dead skin cells and helped maximise benefits of the minieralised onsen water during the soak. The dark chocolate body massage was so deliciously luxurious, it left me in a great mood. And I have to report that the dark chocolate massage didn't leave me walking out covered in visible chocolate coating my skin. In fact, I could only detect a faint chocolatey aroma and I didn't attract any ants even after going to bed without taking a rinse at all. Wink* Bliss.
The benefits of this soak is beyond just relaxed body and mood. In fact, I decided to have a hair cut that day, and I received compliments from my regular hairstylist about how youthful and fresh I looked. After receiving his compliments, of course I took a closer look at my complexion, indeed I appeared rested, my skin was glowing, more refined and seemed firmer for the next few days. And did I tell you that I didn't touch up my foundation or makeup after the treatment? Why it's Great:
Chocolate is a great mood enhancer as it stimulates the body's production of endorphine and protects the skin from free radicals. Flavonoids in dark chocolate absorbs UV light, increase blood flow, and improve hydration and condition of skin.
I believe the onsen soak did lots of good to my skin to leave it youthful too. At Ikeda Spa, the onsen water is produced using the latest ionization technology. Hot spring minerals are infused into the water, which are absorbed by the skin during the soak. Here are the other benefits of a hot soak in mineralised water, it increases blood circulation and metabolism, relieves stress and anxiety, alleviates aches and pains and reduce skin's pore size as well as nourish skin to improve its condition. Last but not least, the hot soak helps to improve sleep that night. In tropical Singapore, where can one possible go for a healthy hot spring-like soak in minealised water? Not that I know off.
What I love about this set up at Ikeda Spa Prestige, Clarke Quay, is the tinted glass above the onsen which lights up the dimly lit room helps me to relax and unwind better. It also offers a focal point that instead of peering into darkness, one can look into the tinted glass and relax. There's also a wash area (not captured in this picture) at the side for a shower, if one wishes.
I never expect to be able to have a healthy onsen dip without having to fly out of Singapore. This is a really rare chance to take up Ikeda Spa's offer this Valentine's to unwind with your spouse in a sanitised, private and cosy environment.
If you are looking for something special to do, this couple spa treat includes having the whole experience in a private room inclusive of onsen dip, at a savings of S$392. This Valentine's couple spa treat is available now at S$368+ for first time customers of Ikeda Spa who reside in Singapore, and for their members. There are very limited rooms at the spa, so this offer is only on a first come first served basis (get my hint? *wink).
I am seriously considering getting a spa membership with them. Guess you know that I am totally sold to the idea of Ikeda Spa treatments now, but you really have to check it out for yourself to see if it has what you are looking for.
We have been a customer with them since mid 2011. Our first encounter with them was through a voucher purchase and the experience was awesome. The ambience is peaceful and the therapists are very skillful. It is a place where you forget all the stress and the fast moving pace of life and slow down the pace for a couple of hours.
We love everything they provide, the service, the smile, the body scrub, the outdoor hinoki bath soak, the body massage and the The Couple Suite. We enjoyed every moment at Ikeda and are always looking forward to our next experience with them.
The "Nakai-San" Jason knows exactly what oils to be used on us every time when we go for Hot Stone Bed Massage. Irene - on the other hand know what type of massage we need on the day itself. The Massage Therapists - Miyuki and Luisa has wonderful massaging skills. We had signed up a package with Irene with no hesitation this first time !! Yesterday was the second time we signed a new package with Irene, (Not because she was pushy !) but is was because our package is finishing. She was very friendly and detailed. Not only Jason and Irene, all their staffs (Eg. Maggie, Yukari) - were very professional, they are attentive to every details and our needs.
If anyone needs a good massage, you know where to go. IKEDA SPA ! !
