Check out my unruly mane The ends are super spoilt and it keeps breaking, first time Ive ever had such bad breakage, all thanks to the numerous bleaching last year. My hair is also dip dyed; colored dark at the crown and light at the ends, causing the ends to look even more spoilt than what it really is
About time to do something about it dont you think?
Rise Hair Salon
Hurried over after work to #risehairsalon for a haircut and treatment. Thank goodness the salon is conveniently located near Cbd. (& did I mention Ann siang hill; where all the amazing food is at)
This is my second visit to rise hair salon & I chose Teru to be my stylist again
If you didnt already know, Rise hair salon is a Jap hair salon with Jap hair stylists. Imo Japanese are the elites when it comes to fashion, hair & beauty. Jap hair salons are rather scarce in sg, happy I found Rise!

Getting treatment done
Teru applied the treatment cream to the ends of my hair, wrapped it up and put my whole head into the steamer. Waiting time was about 15 mins, so heres where I start playing Sudoku, take bald Selfies and pretend to read magazines (when really Im just looking at the pictures)
Here it is! The bald Selfie!
Can you see the steam? Looks really hot but rest assured my scalp was cool and protected by my hair ends piled on top.
Anyway Teru did the treatment before cutting my hair and I thought that would be a waste of the treatment so I asked him why and his reason was because it would be easier to cut my hair after the treatment. Felt kinda stupid after. Never question a hair stylists methods because they know best
And we are done with treatment, cut and styling! This is Teru, senior stylist at Rise hair salon.
Absolutely loveeeee my new hair! Its super Jap looking, healthy and bouncy with volume. Not to mention, I can run my fingers through my hair and it wont get stuck.
The reason I will keep returning is because Teru doesnt rush through the cut, he handles my hair gently and is very thorough / detailed. Much unlike shunji where they speed through (cant believe i even gave shunji another chance)
Closeup of my new hair. Its got body, shape and is way neater now ^^
Here r the promotional packages. Teru is a senior stylist.
Note: Teru can only speak basic English, so if you would like a stylist who is fluent with English, get the director (whom is also jap). That said, Terus basic English was sufficient for me to have a great cut and I would definitely recommend him!

A few days after my cut Even without terus styling, my hair is still in shape!
Post from last weeks haircut at Rise Hair Salon. Rise is a Japanese hair salon located conveniently in Cbd. Their 2 inhouse Japanese hairdressers are yohei (director) & teru (senior stylist). I was really excited to try out this salon purely based on the fact that its a Japanese hair salon. (I have such a love for anything Jap) And they did live up to my expectations of the Jap culture; jap are very particular about timing and lateness. Meaning that my appt started on time!
This was while waiting for Teru. I chose Teru instead of yohei because he can speak English.
So anyhow, You can see how limp, shapeless and unruly my hair was. Ive always wished for more volume at the crown but alas my hair texture is just too fine and heavy for it to be possible. Oh and I know it looks like regrowth, but its actually the Ombre color my colorist did for me.
I noticed that all their customers (4 of them) were Japanese; felt like I was in Japan!
Done! I loveeeee it! Exactly how I wanted it to be! Light & bouncy with Volume at the crown and tamed ends. Teru was so professional and gentle with my hair. He also provided the full range of washing, drying, cutting and styling unlike a lot of the other salons in sg where a junior would do the washing and drying. He didnt rush through the cut either. Another reason to love the Japs; they take much pride in their work.
My haircut by Teru was $60. (FYI Yoheis cut is $80 directors cut)
I have no complaints, Ill be back for sure!
I am excited to share with you my awesome experience at Rise Salon @ Gemmill Lane today. As you have seen in recent pictures, my hair is getting out of control. I have fraying bits of hair all over the place some longer than others and not curling at the right places. Furthermore, the last time I had done a full head colouring was in January so my regrowth shows and my hair looks very lacklustre. I know its unusual for me to keep my hair unkempt but the last hairjob costed me a whopping $450! While digital perms do cost more, the curls only lasted for a month or so. This was my hair straight after my digital perm. I apologise for the fuzzy picture as this was taken at 11pm at night with my iphone, the best available camera on hand.
About 4 months later, all my curls have disappeared into what I consider a messy bedroom look. I suppose bedroom hair is ultimately sexy on some days but not so when work is concerned. I was tossing back and forth between medium shoulder length hair and tousled wavy long hair. I wanted something manageable something that will give me the flexibility of growing my hair out without worrying about regrowth or dry ends.
I decided to take it to Rise Salon. Rise Salon @ Gemmill Lane is a purely Japanese joint run by two guys. I had my hair done by Teru, the Senior Stylist. One tip: do have your hair requests ready because they are booked with appointments back-to-back. I spent slightly longer to decide what I wanted because I didnt know where to start with this frumpy mess.
Heres me this morning before my hairdressing appointment.
I had my hair coloured in some natural 06 shiseido colour, a shade thats appropriately conservative for work but also reveals healthier locks. The dye was applied firstly to my roots and about 10 minutes later to the rest of my ends. About 20 minutes later, I had my hair cleansed with some fabulously smelling John Master Organics shampoo & conditioner. The head massage was surreal, too.
We decided to keep the same length, but thin out the thickness especially at the back of my head. Some of the relaxed curls remained which was nice; it saves me from needing another digital perm anytime soon.
The colour was perfect I finally realise what was missing with my hair for the longest time. It was missing the shine and vibrancy!
I have been paying closer attention to the hair of passerbys and pedestrians and noticed how commonplace it is for girls to dye their hair an awful brownish orange. If you have been a frequent follower of my blog, you would have remembered those days where I also had very light-coloured hair. The colour was beautiful but such a pain to manage because hair regrowth is an absolute pet peeve of mine. Anyone in their right mind should be prepared to invest in root touchups every 2-3 months especially if their base colour is >3 shades lighter than their natural colour.
So overall, Rise Salon @ Gemmill Lane is a real gem. The service is very typical of Japanese standards in which Teru took very meticulous attention to detail. I was very well taken care from the time I stepped into the premise and all the way out. This is a huge leap from the usual run-of-the-mill hair salons on Orchard Road. Its a different business model of course commercial salons rely on technicians to support the hair washes and hair styling. But here in Rise, Teru walked through all the steps of cleansing, colouring, cutting and drying. That to me is quite special.
Rise is quietly tucked away at a small lane near Far East Square (ChinaTown) and best accessed with taxi. Sundays are the best time to book your appointment because there is generally less traffic and the weekday working crowd. I had my hair coloured and cut for $290, including a complimentary duo of John Masters Organics Shampoo & Conditioner valued at $65.
So I hope this review helps anyone whos looking for a decent Japanese hairdresser in Singapore.
If you know me, youll know that Im always on the hunt for the holy grail of hairstyles. If I grow my hair long, Ill get the itch to chop it off and once its short, Ill want swishy long locks again.
In the last two years, Ive been through a disastrous rebonding, followed by a short perm that grew out, a trim and partial rebonding, followed by a bunch of unsatisfactory shorter cuts. With all of that, came the constant trial and error search for THE stylist.
After my current bob grew out all straggly and rebelled one bad hair day, I decided enough was enough and started researching again for the next salon/stylist to try. It really was a very impulsive decision when I saw good reviews of Rise Hair Salon online, and in a flash, Id made my appointment for that evening. Of course, it helped that the salon was a 5 minute walk from the office so I could bolt there after work for hair salvation.
As a Japanese salon, Rise Hair Salon comes with all the good things you might expect a relaxing environment, attentive stylists and top-notch service. Oh, and great hair-washing skills! Anyone whos suffered in the hands of overzealous shampoo aunties will know what I mean. No scalp scratching and definitely no water splashed on your face, only yummy smelling shampoo and a good head massage. Plus, you wont be shuttled around on your visit as each stylist attends to you from start to finish.
Best of all, the stylists are very good at what they do. Its just two male stylists for now Yohei (Director) and Teru (Senior Hairstylist), and I can personally attest that their skills are excellent. Yohei helped transform my straggly, over-thinned cut into a sleek bob and passed on some great tips for styling it on my own. I was so impressed that I brought the bf back a few days later and Teru did a good job as well. In fact, his style looks great just air-dried and even without any wax or product.
So long story short, I think Ive found the right stylist and salon, and will definitely be back!
