Was at La Coco hair salon today, its located on the forth floor inside Orchard Central ( might be a bit difficult to find if entered thru the main entrance). One of my friend is a regular customer at La Coco and also the online reviews lured me to this posh upscale hair salon in town. The reason why I chose to do my hair at La Coco is because my hair was pretty much damage due to the perm I did at Style Lab located in Scape*. My hair was super dry and the ends were burnt and needed some intensive treatment. And I dont want to entrust my already damaged hair onto the hands of sales oriented hair stylist.
The interesting thing that happened today at La Coco was that the shampoo lady was from the same secondary sch as I and she worked prev at Style Lab and when I told her I did my hair at Style Lab she pretty much dug out so much dirt and squashed it like strait flat! She said tht there is not much business at Style Lab and so they are running on Groupon promotions to stay afloat. The stylists come and go and the products that they provide are like.. Shit. I was shock to hear that they use conditioner as hair treatment. I was likewhat?! I can do that at home! But anyway according to her Style Lab is shit and Ive tried it personally and wasted money and hair. Lesson learnt.
Back to La Coco! Its advisable to book appmt with them before hand as they seems to be quite busy. I was there ytd at 5 and couldnt get hair done Cus there is no slot. My friend recommended Elin and she is SUPER nice. Shes Korean so she knows what in and not! You wouldnt believe that shes a mother of 2! The oldest being 19; Eline looks 30+ only.
When you enter the salon, they will guide you to ur seat and ask If youll like to drink anything. Then Eline came and ask how I want my hair to be done. I told her I want a hair cut(student price 50$) but after examining my hair she recommends treatment also. The range of treatment ranges from $140-$550! At first I chose the 140$ treatment but Kelly( shampoo lady) said that it doesnt make much diff since my hair is so dry and thick. She recommended the mucota treatment for 220$. Even though its so exxx, but its a four-step treatment, so the whole head gets coverage and the difference is immediate!
Eline also recommended my fringe to be permed as it looks nicer. She literally LOL when I told her the Style Lab stylist said it looks ugly when I wanted my fringe to be permed! She charge me 20$ for fringe perm( usual price 60$)!
Overall I was so satisfied with the service and outcome! Eline is those kind of stylist that really takes time to cut ur hair even though she had another customer waiting. And also checks ur hair regularly during the perm and treatment process. Shes not pushy with products and she knows whats best and what looks good! I literally felt that my hair was orgasming during the treatment! From dry damage ends to smooth healthy curls once again! Hohoho!
I also got a bottle of mucota serum to apply the ends. According to Kelly this bottle can last 3-4mths, so u dont have to come back for treatment so often. I was shock when she said that the average bill is 1000$ !! OMG!
But it so worth the money and time! After Ive been to La Coco I dont think Ill visit other salon already; they set the bar!
Woah its been a really long time since I last blogged, having work filling up your entire life, isnt something fun at all. In fact, Ive put on weight due to the lack of exercise and because of stress, cravings for deep fried food just got bigger!
And so having 2 hours to wait, Ive decided to go to the hair salon to dye my hair. And get rid of those split ends that Ive been suffering from!! Its really so bad that I can possibly tear a strand of my hair cleanly into half. With all the korean hype going on, perhaps it was time to try a korean hair stylist!
Cant say that I know a lot of korean hair salons in Singapore, but I think the more well known ones would be the one at Wheelock place and Orchard Central. Ive decided to just walk in and try LaCoco Hair Salon at Orchard Central. Thankfully, they took me in, even without an appointment. (Ive got to say that I came rather early.)
I was assigned to a senior stylist (definitely Korean with his heavy Korean-accented English). Ive been to many different hair stylists and I really like the way Sean manages my hair. Hes confident and swift in his cuts, you can totally feel no hesitation as he snips away at your hair. And he even gave me some advice on the kind of hairstyle I should have with my face shape.
The salon uses Majirel, LOreal hair dye which is supposed to be a hair dye used by professionals because of its complex application method and it is beneficial to your hair! It provides longer color protection, with ultraconditioners and high resistance to sun and water exposure. Wow personally, I dont really put so much thought into the hair dye but this one doesnt sting my scalp at all. And the smell isnt as strong and funky as the ones Ive used before.
Im so loving my new hairdo. Finally! No two drastically different colored hair! And hes blown my hair so beautifully. I feel like I can fling my hair without feeling disgusted at how poorly managed they are!
I just had a haircut by Shua from La Coco, previously from Toni & Guy Hairdressing. She is the creative director over there with more than 10 years of experience in the industry but currently working on a part time basis (Thurs, Fri and Sat only). Despite being a Korean, she is able to communicate in English pretty well as she stayed in Singapore for quite sometimes already.
She first ask me if I have any preferred hairstyles then she will comment if the chosen hairstyle is suitable for me. Meanwhile, she studied my hair and was able to spot on all my hair problems correctly. Next, she explained to me in details how she is going to cut my hair. In addition, she also suggested an alternate hairstyle for me to choose which is quite new (at least for me) as normally the hairstylists will just cut/modify 1 hairstyle for me.
She also advised on how to take care of my hair and recommended what type of products should go but NO HARD SELLING. She is quite cheerful, friendly, chatty and most important knowledgeable and PROFESSIONAL.
Overall, I am quite pleased and comfortable with the haircut even though it may not be the best as I chose the hairstyle which is easier to maintain.
I just went to lacoco last weekend and yes! Its highly reccomended! For the price and the good skill, its worth it. I have been to too many salons telling me its impossible to cut without styling Lacoco prove me wrong!! Haha even without gel, i can just easily brush my hair and its good enough..
Yes. Joel park is my hairstylist. Hes good at what he does. Am going back Two weeks later for a treatment as he recommended..
ot a haircut by Rina quite sometime back.
Popped by around 5.30 in the evening, pretty empty in there. Service was not bad, was offered some water by a friendly auntie. Hair wash was done by a local, to be honest it was very mediocre. No massage, nothing, just shampoo and rinse.
Hair was blew dry by an assistant and Rina attended to me shortly after. She was very friendly, always smiling and all. I declined a perm recommendation she suggested and shes just like Okay, no worries! -flash smile- So i found it a plus that they do not hardsell their services or products. (Had bad experiences with some salons prior)
Did not had any hairstyles in mind so she went free and easy with the haircut. Very meticulous, down to each strands, was impressed. Haircut turned out alright but felt it was lacking somewhere.
Found out they actually have student prices, i forgot the exact price but its around 30+-. Would say its value for money..
I am here now at Lacoco, made an appointment at 4pm, and now is about 4.20pm. Got a feeling that I still got to wait longer.
My appointment is with Jean Prerrie, their famous stylist or something like that. First impression here is still pretty okay. A small waiting are, with a not so comfortable chair. But, after waiting for 10 mins, I was offered with a glass of water. Pretty nice.
Overall, the ambiance looks quite nice, with nice lighting, glamourous finishing and Korean songs played.
There seems to be quite a number of korean stylist sand customer here.
I cant have any conclusion yet since this is my first visit sand I have not done my hair.
Will Keep you all updated after the session.
Update: At 4:35pm, they washed my hair. It was done by a local lady. Initially I thought that it is a normal wash, to my surprise she also gave me a light massage on my scalp, which is actually quote comfortable.
After it is done, I got left alone to wait again. So far I have waited for about 20 mins again.
Update 2: I started my hair cut at about 4:55pm and ended the whole session at about 5:20pm. The director did apologise for keeping me waiting, as there was a minor complain on the other customer. Im pretty satisfied with the hair cut, even though Im still not sure if it fits me well. Need to hear out my friends review before I know.
Price wise, I paid $40 for a director cut, so I would say its pretty worth it. Thats the student rate by the way..
actually La coco is quite good experience for my case.
went for the first time last month and the stylist was patient and understanding. i agree that the recep got a bad attitude though. i was there and the recep continue talking on the phone, didnt bother to attend to me. in the end the director got to come to me and asked if i made appointment.
the cut was good and turned out well despite its being 3 weeks since then. usually my hairstyle will be hard to manage after 2 weeks.
my guess for the bad reviews is cos, many good reviews and people tend to have higher expectations.
for me, the experience was quite good and am going back for 2nd visit
I went la coco in the late afternoon yesterday too, rina was fully book so i just drop by to try my luck, i got attended by Joel Park, one of their senior hairstylist.
Though he was quite busy attending to other customers at the same time, he did quite a good job overall and he help me apply some straightened cream to the sides of my hair as my sides always seem to stand out.
I am quite satisfied with the haircut, will consider visiting them again.
