I ended up at Team Salon at JEM, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed myself that I spent over $400 there. And, I got to also know more about Aveda products, which uses pure plant and flower essences and they smell heavenly!
All I wanted was to touch up my greying roots, and maybe a treatment to nourish my hay-like mane. But, I came out with dark roots, bright highlights, softer hair and a non-itchy scalp. :)
There are a few things I look for when I visit a salon. Basically, I like to be left pretty much alone. No small talk, no upselling and no packages. More importantly, no product pushing.
Well, they ticked the boxes on the no small talk, no packages and no product pushing bits. So pretty much, I got sucked into doing more things for my tresses, just because I felt comfortable there.
There were 3 things that impressed me...
1) Attention to details
The stylish assigned to me was Shan Zhao, and by the looks of it, he was probably a senior stylish. I left him to work his magic after giving my brief, and he wasted no time to work on it. I noticed how he was very detailed in ensuring my thick tresses are carefully, and properly highlighted.
This attention to details was not limited to just the stylish. Even his assistant (this cute girl with a blonde bob) checked and double checked to ensure she has got dye properly applied.
2) Reclinable seats at the wash area
It is not always you get to lie down flat while having your hair washed. This is the first time I have encountered such comfort and it certainly enhances the salon experience.
3) Relaxing head and shoulder massage with Aveda Chakra body mists
The massage lasted for a good 10 to 15 minutes, paired with the body mist of the chakra I selected, I felt relaxed, like I had weight lifted off my shoulders.
Best of all, the 3 hours spent at the salon was fantastic time away from work and family, giving me some quality me time! So, if you are like me, who values your own space, and wants to be brought on a sensory journey plus get a good pampering for your hair, maybe you can give Team Salon a try. They have 6 outlets around the island.
