I'm sort-of-a-fitness-junkie. In all places that I have lived in/traveled to, I would try to hit the gym.
I am proud to declare that Pure Fitness is the best gym which I have ever worked out in. There are two fitness branches - one at Knightsbridge (Orchard) and one at Asia Sq (Raffles Place). Two yoga studios under pure - one at Ngee Ann (Orchard) and one at Chevron House (Raffles Place).
All of Pure's fitness instructors and yoga instructors are packed with energy / gusto / fun - they really push you hard. Tonnes of classes for you to choose from. You could really take your fitness level to an all-new level by training with Pure's fitness instructors! Or prepare yourself for that marathon/duathlon/triathlon!
You could purchase a gym+yoga membership which gives you access to all Pure fitness/yoga centres in Singapore, Taiwan, HK and Shanghai.
Great great great shower facilities too. Free gym gear. Free apples for you to munch on as well. Oh yeah - free diet coke/unhealthy soft drinks/coffee/tea for you to hydrate yourself. Splendid scenery of Marina Bay / Orchard.
Slightly pricey gym package - but would be perfect for fitness junkies who hit the gym almost every day. Or for those who takes yoga practice + fitness training seriously!
Definitely one of the best, if not *the* best, gyms in the city. Yes, membership is expensive. Yes, they will still try to pull gym-type tricks on you like upselling you a huge load of personal training sessions. But the quality of the facilities is second to none, the gym is spacious and not usually too crowded and the staff are well-trained and attentive to your needs.
I'm not a exercise junkie, but I don't mind going to pure, which is saying a lot. They provide me work out clothes and even socks! So the lazy bugger in me doesn't need to do all the dirty laundry. Classes are not too packed and easy to get a slot and I've never had to wait for a machine.
It's extremely spacious and clean, with a sauna and steam room, plentiful showers. The best part is the iPods. I hate to share this secret, but the preload iPods with loads of tv series, music and movies! It's free to borrow and for those who hate the gym, it's not so bad running while watching modern family, how I met your mother etc!
I've not tried many of the classes but the fact I don't need to do any laundry, can watch tv shows while jogging, it's almost as good as lying on the sofa! Great place to exercise for those who needs a lot of prodding (like me!)
I've been a loyal member of Pure since my days in Hong Kong. I had a short stint at Fitness First but that was only because of proximity to my apartment at the time. In my opinion, Pure delivers a solid gym experience all around. Excellent array of classes and principle gym equipment. Membership is around S$180 to S$200 a month. The Asia Square outlet is the newer one and it's a whole lot bigger than Knightsbridge.
