I guess it goes with the territory. If it is more expensive, it is more exclusive and therefore less crowd. I don't mind paying slightly more and have a less crowded environment to work out. At least I don't have to queue for the bench press or be contend with dirty toilet facilities (like California Fitness). Compared to Cali (average $90 per month), Fitness First averages around $130++ per month. One plus point is that you can use Fitness First even in Beijing, London, Europe etc whereas Cali's network is not that wide.
Checked out this fitness club sometime back and find it quite well equipped. Facilities are well maintained and on a single floor. A bit costlier though than my current membership with California Fitness.
One of the more crowded branches of Fitness First. The Gym is even better after the move to the 8th floor. But it has made a bit more difficult to get to. As now it is not housed in the main Paragon mall area, there is a need to take a lift up to the 8th floor. Great view of orchard road(well Ngee Ann City to be exact) from the cardio machines area. It is now brighter thanks to the big windows facing Orchard Road. It is a bit more expensive, but I feel that it is one of the better mega gym chains in Singapore.
I like Fitness First as it is less crowded than other gyms like California. It's just a dread having to queue just to take a shower. The equipments are all new/clean and they are very well equipped. A beverage bar is also provided for members and it's pretty nice to chill out there if you happen to be waiting for a friend after the workout. The only con is that the membership fee is really pricey and unless you work out like at least 4 times per week, it's not really worth signing up. In any case, if you are a member, visit the Fusionpolis branch. Nice and spacious with a terrific view!
There are only 2 lifts serving this gym located on the 8th floor of Paragon and waiting to get into these 2 lifts could take as long as 5 mins which can be quite a pain. This gym could be one of the largest of Fitness First in Singapore other than the one in Fusionpolis. Equipment-wise there is no complaint. You can also enjoy the scenary of Orchard Road while working out. The cycle studio of the gym is a bit to cramped with the bikes closely placed to one another. The flooring of the Group Exercise studio also seems to be insecure when you stepped on it (give you the feeling that it will collapse)
