I was a member of Fitness First in Ang Mo Kio for nearly two years. It was my first gym membership and I was pretty impressed with what I was offered.
The gym at AMK is clean and neat, and there are friendly staffs and trainers to help you out to use the machines or so. I enjoyed the classes, but during the night classes and weekend classes, it tends to be really crowded and noisy. Most of the time, I would walk out even before the class ended.
I would prefer if AMK could provide gym attires, like the other outlets in Singapore. Fitness First AMK is catered more to the elder gym members and a more 'neighbourhood' approach due to the target audience.
And with the membership card, it also entitles you to discounts at other food cafes too.
I've been a member of Fitness First for quite some time, the outlet at Ang Mo Kio (AMK) Hub is one of the ones I frequent because of two reasons: it's close to home and the instructors there are awesome.
The posting of instructors are not permanent though, so I'm lucky that the instructor teaching BodyPump has been there for many months.
Located at the basement of AMK Hub, the area is more claustrophobic (a term used by a friend who's used to Raffles Quay and One George Street outlets) than most gyms, but the equipment is more than adequate to meet your needs. The outlet is popular with heartlanders - mainly housewives and students. So... It does tend to get a little crowded during weekends or public holiday classes, sometimes the queue extends to near the bathrooms.
It's easily accessible via the underpass from Ang Mo Kio MRT Station, just go up the left escalator when you reach AMK Hub.
One complaint I have though, is that my StarHub 3G doesn't work at all once I enter the gym. Hmmph.
