Micara My Face is a boutique spa located conveniently at Duxton Road (walking distance from Tanjong Pagar Mrt). I met the lady boss Sandra, who took a brief look at my skin and face conditions first. We discussed my skin concerns and the possible facial treatments for it.
As most people around me would know, I have a serious case of puffy eye bags. This is despite the amount of sleep I get and all the rest I force myself to take. As such, we decided to do Radio Frequency treatment for my eyes and the oxy-spray followed by blue LED light treatment for my face. Sandra says, the focus on my face will be to bring out the youthful glow (brightening effect) while the radio waves will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and puffiness around my eyes.

I was introduced to my therapist Jo, who showed me to my room. There I was told to change into a pink tube gown. Jo then double cleansed my face and removed the makeup on my face. This was followed by application of milk enzyme mask which is supposed to soften the dead skin cells. It’s interesting how the milk enzyme really smelled like drinking milk. My face was then put under the warm steamer for 5 minutes.

Then came the exciting part which was the radio frequency treatment for my puffy eyes. During this treatment I had to rest my back on a small metal plate (might seem a little intimidating initially) but Jo was extremely reassuring. She kept assuring me that it was just to provide contact with my body (maybe to create some kind of closed circuit) but of which I will not have any feelings or so whatsoever. Jo applied an RF gel around my eye area and began using the RF tip to massage the area around my eyes. It just felt warm and soothing, like putting a warm pack around your eyes. I believe it was to improve blood circulation.

Then we moved on to the treatment for my face. The ampoule chosen for my skin was a hydrating one. This ampoule has no preservatives and can only be kept for 4 hours upon opening. Jo massaged the ampoule onto my skin and then started the oxy-revive treatment. The first step involved the oxy-jet spray. It felt very similar to being treated with those mist jets that hydrate your face just that it leave no water droplets on your face this time. It was then followed by oxygen penetration where two small probe-like tools were used to ‘push’ oxygen into my skin. Each time the probe was lifted, there was a slight suction feeling that’s all.

Then came the exciting part- the treatment with blue LED light. Jo explained that the blue light has anti-bacterial properties and can help decongest clogged pores. It’s generally good for soothing aggravated skin and prevents future pimple outbreaks. To top it off, my face was applied with an oxygen cream.
Then came the final step which was putting the collagen eye mask and face mask on. Basically, Jo placed cut sheets of dry collagen marine nutrients-infused paper onto my face. This was followed by applying collagen gel onto the paper to ’activate’ the collagen mask. The gel felt cold and refreshing. I generally love cold masks and the tingling cooling feeling it gives me.

The facial ended with a good neck, shoulder and head massage which I had not expected and was so pleasantly surprised. It just feels so good when you are given such holistic treatments. To me, it’s really important that when you go for a facial, you leave the salon not only feeling like your face and skin is refreshed but your whole head, neck and shoulder area has been pampered.
Lastly, we did an IPL session for my upper lip hair. So basically most girls also have very fine and slight facial hair all over and this includes upper lip hair too. I have tried IPL before but not on my face so was feeling a little scared. Due to the energy from the pulses of light shot, there might be a momentary feeling of pain or shock.
Of course, Jo did a great job with it. She first applied the IPL gel over my lip area. This is a cold gel to reduce the shock felt by the pulses of light. She set the laser to a moderate energy first and did a test on my lips. There was not much sensation and so she slowly turned up the energy. All in all, it was a very quick and pleasant experience. Within 5 minutes, the whole process was done.

Right after the treatment, I really felt like my skin was glowing. Sandra was really right when she said this treatment would bring out the youthful glow in me. In addition to the visible results, it feels really good to go for a facial that comes along with additional ‘goodies’ like the massage. I already cannot wait for my next appointment.
