This article was inspired by my best friend’s experience with organic facials before her service. SS, got married last month and being the procrastinators we are, she only started preparing her skin one month prior to her wedding.
Pre-wedding conversation 4 days before wedding
It was 4 days before SS’s wedding day. She was telling me excitedly that she had a facial session at Pure Tincture due the next day. To be honest, I was surprised that SS still wanted to go for a facial appointment. “Wouldn’t your skin be red and irritated for the wedding day?” I remembered asking.
With a history in allergies and bad outbreaks, SS hardly did any facials her entire life. However, she felt the immense need to have her skin cleaned up as soon as possible for her big day. Still, 96 hours pre-wedding is a huge gamble in my opinion.
For someone who is apprehensive about facials, I must say I was very impressed with SS’s confidence in Helen that I decided to write about her last minute pre-wedding facial experience.
Let me bring it back to a few weeks ago.
Pre-wedding conversation 1 month before wedding
During one of our conversations, SS was lamenting about her skin – she doesn’t do any facials – and that her skin has been suffering from all the stress leading up to the big day.
We started discussing about about organic facials, and how they are supposed to be gentle on your skin – what she needed for her wedding – and she decided to try it out at Pure Tincture.
The appointment at Pure Tincture 4 days before wedding
Facial day came, and SS showed up for her appointment at Pure Tincture. The standard process is usually for the beautician, Helen or Jean, to have a conversation with you to understand your skin’s needs.
If you took a look at Pure Tincture’s services menu, you will most probably be unsure of what to try. Eventually we learn that you might not end up doing the facial you booked for, because some products might be swapped out for another that suits better. (I used ‘we’ because I caved in for a facial appointment at Pure Tincture too, review will come later.)
Pure Tincture’s Signature Customized Facial – The Process
I flinch at customizable facials, because past experiences have taught me that I should be expecting to pay a bomb at the end of the facial. Fortunately, at Pure Tincture, your facial price doesn’t change unless you decide to add on extra eye treatments or massages. That said, always clarify when in doubt!
Doing an organic facial is like going on a scent journey. It is comforting to be able to identify the scent of every ingredient in the product. For SS, she was due for a PAI Skin Confidence Detox & Decongest Facial, customized to better suit her skin.
Let me quickly summarize SS’s facial with products, and ingredients for those who want a more detailed understanding:
SS’s skin was first cleansed with PAI’s Camellia and Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser followed by a Rice Plant and Rosemary Bio-affinity Toner.
With the Kukui Jojoba Bead Skin and Brightening Exfoliator, SS’s skin is gently scrubbed in preparation for the upcoming pampering.
3) Steamer to open up pores
This is where the action begins. What Helen emphasized on was that they do not force extractions. For congestions that are not ready to be removed, they will choose to forgo that than to cause scarring. For SS, they gently extracted protruding bumps so that they will be flattened in time for her wedding.
5) Special acupressure and lymphatic massage
One of SS’s concerns was dull skin, so Helen used the Echium and Perilla Bio-rejuvenate Facial Oil for the special acupressure and lymphatic massage.
For some parts of the facial, Helen uses nutritious products that are only for professional use, so you won’t be able to buy it off the shelf.
6) First Mask for Cleansing
To draw out the dirt, oil and impurities from deep within the pores, Helen applied the Himanthalia & Sea Fennel Decongesting Face Mask.
7) Second Mask for Restoration (Add-on)
After deep cleansing, Helen applied the Echium and Cupuacu Intensive Conditioning Mask to hydrate, condition, smoothen and soothe skin for glow and radiance. Happy and plump skin, yay!
8) Finishing touches
After the removal of masks, Helen nourishes the skin with the Lotus and Orange Blossom Bio-affinity Toner.
And an ampoule (add-on) for essential hydration and radiance!
After facial photos
Surprisingly after the facial, SS’s face wasn’t red and angry.
Previously these were spots that caused a bumpy complexion.
Without the bumps, her complexion was radiant and smooth on wedding day! Ready for photos from all directions :)
Facial services at Pure Tincture are usually around $180. You can however, enjoy a 30% discount if you purchase a $600 or a $1000 package. The $1000 package comes with 3 free eye treatments that are worth $180.
SS bought a $600 package, and was entitled to 30% her treatment. She had two $20 add ons, which amounted the total to $220. SS paid $154 for the entire facial after discount.
